In the Brown v Board of Education discrimination case, Chief Justice Earl Warren said on May 17, 1954,
“We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of ‘separate but equal’ has no place.” In our state of Colorado many areas had Indian Boarding Schools where Native American children were forcibly taken from their homes to be educated by white teachers. At Mountain Inclusion Academy we believe in welcoming all students, of all abilities, from all backgrounds to receive education in a positive and supportive environment.
Mills v Board of Education of the District of Columbia was a case that began with 7 kids who had disabilities and wanted to attend public school. At the time schools did not have to serve students with disabilities. On August 1, 1972 Judge Joseph C. Waddy ruled that students with
disabilities must be given a free public education.
Paul R. Diamond was one of the attorneys
representing the kids for the Mills v. The Board of Education, in 2021 he said, “One frontier remains to be crossed to better empower and educate parents to choose and discover the full range of
available federal, state and local support services that will best enable each of their children to realize their potential including as full citizens of the United States of America.”
At Mountain Inclusion Academy we include parents in their students educational plans and want every kid to reach their full potential.
American public education values summative assessments over formative assessments. Standardized tests, like the SATs are high-value summative assessments. In Amanda Ripley's book, Smartest Kids in the World, an opinion shared says “You cannot measure what counts in education—the human qualities.” At Mountain Inclusion Academy we strive to give creative assessments. We do include PSAT/ SAT/ ACT testings for students who need these scores to pursue their dreams.
When comparing adult literacy rates and adult digital literacy it is clear that
Finland has prepared students better. In the U.S. In literacy, 50 percent of U.S. adults performed at Level 3 or above on an adult literacy exam. While in Finland, 63 percent of Finland's adults performed at Level 3 or above. At Mountain Inclusion Academy we think that reading is
an important skill and all students should get help with reading in school.
To teach in France you must pass a “concours,” a type of national exam. To take the exam you must have a Bac + 5 to be eligible. This is a Bachelor’s plus a 2 year Masters degree. In France it only costs 250 euros in fees for a Masters degree. At Mountain Inclusion Academy we also require our teachers to have a Masters Degree. We understand that it costs more to achieve this in the U.S. and we try to help teachers with this cost if they would like to teach here.
